Boat Festival

Last night we went into Galway for the Powerboat Festival. It is a race around the island of Ireland and the boasts leave from Galway. Over 60,000 people were in Galway this weekend for the celebration. The streets and pubs were packed with people and bands were playing in the streets. You are allowed to drink in the streets as long as you have your drink in a plastic cup (which the security guards were handing out). This is much different then in the states! After going to a pub, we met up with some of Kelsey's friends who are from Galway. They actually live next to the Spanish Arch, in the colorful row of houses. I was in awe the entire night to be in the houses that appear on postcards and paintings around the world! The festival was down by the docks. An Irish band that is popular over here played on a huge stage and I enjoyed seeing the Irish people dressed up. There were vendors and lots of food. It reminded me of a fair in Wisconsin, but Irish style. They were selling garlic potatoes, fish and chips, Guinness, and crepes. It was a great night and fun to spend time with some locals our age. The locals made me say Ireland 249785 times until I could finally say it the "correct" way. They got a kick out of our accents and of course wanted to know all about Wisconsin. Whenever people ask us where we are from and we reply Wisconsin, they always say...OH YES, Wisconsin...just like That 70's Show.
