to market, to market...

Apparently I need to update my blog today since I didn't post yesterday...I heard through the grape vine that my Dad wants to see what I'm up to :) Here you go Dad!
Well yesterday we didn't have class and many of us in the group were getting a bit sick, so we stayed around Corrib Village and relaxed. I went for a walk in the sun and layed down by the Corrib River.
Today we went into the City Center (the busy part of Galway City) and found the Saturday market. It was down a small side street and was PACKED full of people. There were endless vendors there selling fresh bread, jewelry, paintings, and produce. I had a fresh crepe for lunch with spinach, feta cheese, onions, pesto, and sun dried tomatoes. It was delicious! The man who made our crepes was so friendly, he told us about a visit to the states in 1980 and that he hitch hiked from NYC to San Francisco! He insisted that we come into the crepe stand and take a picture.
We walked up and down Shoppe street (a pedestrian only street lined with shops, pubs, and restaurants) and people watched. There we many street musicians out today, and I was surprised to see children who were no older than 6 or 7 singing or playing music for money.
Then we made our way to a grocery store to attempt to find some things to cook. Cooking here is a bit difficult, as we have a very small kitchen and not many pots or pans. The food here does not contain preservatives so things spoil very quickly. My meals have been consisting of oatmeal, yogurt, nutella, and some fruit...not very healthy. Today we bought some chicken and we will see how that cooks up. Tonight we are going into town to check out the boat festival.
Here are some pictures from the market and Shoppe Street.
